Frequently Asked Questions
The questions we get most.
If your question isn't here, please email faq@azelastuhkw.com or call (486) 787-8199 and we'll answer it (and probably add it to this page).
Where are you located?
Our studio is at 1517 Wildcat Hollow in West Lake Hills, Texas, 78746. We meet most clients on their property rather than in the studio — design conversations work better in the place we're designing for.
What does a project typically cost?
Design alone usually runs $4,800–$14,000 depending on lot size and complexity. Full design-build projects range from roughly $25,000 for a focused front yard to $300,000+ for full property work with significant hardscape. We give a clear, itemized estimate at the end of the design phase, before you commit to building anything.
How long does a project take?
From first call to last plant installed, a typical project takes 4–9 months. Design alone is usually 6–9 weeks. Installation depends on scope and weather (and, increasingly, on stone availability).
Do you only work with native plants?
About 80–90% of every garden we design is native to Central Texas. The remaining 10–20% is reserved for adapted species (think Mediterranean herbs, certain salvias, a few non-native ornamental grasses) that earn their place by behaving like natives once established. We don't do tropicals, we don't do non-native turf, and we don't fight the climate.
Will you remove my lawn?
Often, yes. Most of our clients are converting some or all of their St. Augustine or Bermuda lawn into a designed native garden. We handle removal, soil rehabilitation, and replanting as a single phase.
Do you do maintenance?
We offer a small, capped roster of stewardship contracts for clients whose gardens we have designed — eight visits a year, focused on editing rather than mowing. We do not take on maintenance for gardens we did not design ourselves.
What about HOA or city restrictions?
We've worked across most West Lake Hills, Rollingwood, Westlake and Eanes-area HOAs and we know the typical hurdles. We'll review your CC&Rs as part of the site analysis and design within them. For City of West Lake Hills tree, drainage, and impervious cover regulations, we handle permitting where needed.
Do you guarantee your plants?
Yes. Every plant we install carries a one-growing-season warranty — if it fails despite reasonable watering during the establishment year, we replace it at no charge. (We've found this is the only warranty that actually means anything in Central Texas.)
Can I just hire you for design and install it myself?
Yes. Roughly a quarter of our clients take the construction documents and hire their own crew, or do it themselves over a few weekends. We'll consult by phone during your install and visit the site once during planting if you want a second set of eyes.
Are you licensed and insured?
Yes. Wildcat Hollow Landscape Studio LLC carries general liability and workers' compensation insurance. We are a TCEQ-licensed irrigator (Andrew, LI 0029318) and a member of the Association of Professional Landscape Designers.
